My dream car

I simply love these 924s, as well as the 944s even though they are considered ersatz by Porsche fanatics

A mate had an early 944 Turbo a few years back, it was an M3 eater of note and it cost them under R50k

One day, one day

IMPI sold his 924 Turbo, exactly the same colour combination as that pic, a few weeks ago. Drove it myself, very nice, just a bit of a process to get in. I think the 924/944 is really underrated in SA.

Yes, and IMPI got his for a real steal

I have found one, by my estimations, if I start saving now, I should have enough to buy it in September or so. Has no engine and interior is shot, but the rest is pretty decent. . .

At 1,71m,I don't think that getting in and out for me is such a problem

I don't think it has anything to do with length, it is just that the seats are very low, and not very high above the floor, in other words your legs are very much straigthened out. Once you're in it, it's a different story - very comfortable, and the car feels like a suit around you.

I've always liked the Autobahnpolizei 924 'panda cars', shouldn't be too difficult to build a replica, and it will really be something different

Saw a 968 like the pic below on the highway near the Airport a few weeks ago, very rare in SA:

That Polizei car is coool!!

I wonder which other Audi engine will fit in there without hassles. I like the 5 cylinder engine a lot!

Beware of motor spares. Believe it or not my brother in law swapped his blown 924 for a quad bike. (money grows on trees at his house so he wasnt to bothered). An engine overall was going to cost him R11000 for parts as he would do the overall himself.

An old school mate of mine has a 928 in George. He bought it in a running condition, and is in the process of restoring it. Only problem is a new crank (one of the parts he need) costs double he paid for the whole car..

Pine which motor does your buddies 928 have in, year would help to. My best friend is a Porsche tech, with his own shop and he can find parts relatively cheap.

As far as I understand it, the 924 uses an Audi 100 engine. The Turbo has the same engine, but with a Porsche designed cylinder heads. The gearbox is also an Audi unit in the plain jane 924s, but the Turbo has a Porsche Getrag gearbox with a dogleg shift pattern

A lot of people have warned me against buying one due to the high cost of spares, but many people agree that quite a few Vw/Audi parts can be used to keep costs down.

I'm going to have a look at this 924 after the Easter weekend, but have no intentions to buy it at the moment

I think that the high cost of spares on the 928 is due to it having a pukka Porsche V8 :?:

Buy the spares in the US, Stoddard Porsche in the US quoted me R15 000 for a COMPLETE engine rebuild kit for a 1989 3.2 Carrera (shipped to my door with duties), this was after I got a quote for R50 000 from Carerra Motors in Jhb.

Yes, most of the 924 stuff is Vw/Audi so that's not such an issue.

I went to go and have a look at the 924 in question and boy, is it ever fu**** :x
