California Dreaming

Post by Pine »

Saw the new VW California Camper for the first time today at Ellis Motors in Knysna - quite impressive!

Image
Image

Large sleeping space in elevated roof

Image

Rear cupboards with back windows on the left blanked out by cupboards, like the old Westfalia

Image

Gear lever reminds me of those old Atari TV games

Image

Wife very impressed with cooker and fridge arrangement, but still likes our Bay more!

Image
Image

Left rear has flap for 220V input and lockable cap for water tank

Image

Fully imported and RHD, but sliding door still on the RHD side, in other words in SA your passengers will have to get out on the street side of the Bus, instead of the pavement

damn, and to be 100% honest, the wealthy are rather going to stay in a lodge than in a camper.

As nice as this bus is, at that price, it's bloody stupid..........

In their day, Westfalia campers were always very expensive when compared to "regular" buses, but they still sold plenty of them, even in SA. Much as westies are sought after by collectors today, these things will be collector cars of the future.

If I had half a bar to throw away on a car, I'd love one with 4-motion, diff lock and tow hitch.

In the meantime, my 63 Dormobile and 69 Westfalia are more than good enough for the job.
