I did it again, 71 double cab

Post by fig »

Hey Volks

This obsession is getting the better of me. I bought another one, this time a 1971 double cab to match my 71 single cab. It's super clean, although has one or two mechanical niggles to attend to. It's the most I've ever paid for a bus  (don't even ask!).

:D

Fortunately life's not a popularity contest!

Interesting story behind my getting this bus. Some forum members will know this DC as the PO took it to shows quite often. The first time I saw this bus, about six years ago, I introduced myself to the owner and said that I knew it wasn't for sale, but if he ever decided to sell, even if it was in 10 years time, could he please call me first. Amazingly, he remembered, and last September he called me saying he was ready to sell and gave me a truly stratospheric price. I resigned myself to the certainty that we would lose another clean, straight, dry bus to the poms and tried not to think about it again. Then, this past April, he called me again to say the bus was still available at a much lower (but still UK league) price and I decided to bite the bullet and buy it. I will have to sell one or two of the other buses in my collection to repair the damage to my savings, but you don't find quality like this every day. :hangloose:

Thanks Paul. Yes, the interior is also almost perfect, even has the rear rubber floor mat, a thing I've never seen. The only blemish seems to be a small hole in the driver's seat caused by a broken spring. This bus also has its original load bed slats, which I've never seen on a SA pick-up.

I'll take more pics when I get a chance.
