Hey Guys... after years & years of waiting, I finally made the move on buying a 1962 beetle.
Car is pretty much original, the motor was changed to a 1600cc and the car was resprayed... needs a lot of tlc.

Bad news is that on bringing down from Virginia to Durban over the weekend the motor gave up so I need to do a complete overhaul on the motor
If any of you guys know of any places I can get good decent spares or a reasonable trustworthy beetle mechanic in Durban, I would highly appreciate it

Re: My New 1962 Beetle
Hi Daniel, congrats on your Beetle dude, bad news re the motor
It appears that aircooled engine re-builders are few and far between in Durban, this subject has come up more than once on the forum. If you don't come right, you must consider sending your motor to Gauteng or the Western Cape. Rather pay a bit more and get it done once, the right way.
Can't see your pics ? Cheers

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Howsit bud. Glad to see more and more east coast peeps getting bugs on the map.
As Jolas said few real mechs in durbs. More so Ballito.
Rather look at buying a new engine from up in GP use the old as a trade in maybe.
There is a guy in Tongaat, who tinkered with Beetles and busses. "Paddy's auto electrical" he's based in Tongaat city, maybe he's in the book.
Hope you come right.
I've also heard the Scene in Chatsworth is actually good. Maybe there's somebody out there goodluck

Also based in Dbn and my beetle is in need of some mechanical TLC. How did your engine come out? All good? and who did you use?
Please let me as soon as you can. Much appreciated.
Regards
Rowan

Re: My New 1962 Beetle
Hi Rowan
It came out ok... still having issues with the car - its now the oil cooler thats faulty.
Havent given the car much attention these days so actually decided to sell it.
But try this guy Robbie (072 297 2899), from Durban... he built some good beetles, just that for me to get the car to him is a mission.
Good luck Rowan
