Re: I have a BAYbee :D
haven't updated in a long time, been busy getting a wedding sorted (DO NOT GET MARRIED).
slow but sufficient progress, Gearbox bushing sorted out, and drives easier now.
Brakes are currently being redone by Hans at JJ auto in Pretoria. will be collecting a set of original front seats from Hendriks in the weekend, and will have to decide on the upholstery, reeeaally keen on cow hide but I know it wont hold up too long. so possibly a Tartan blue and grey.
once the brakes are 100's I am hoping to get it registered on my name (still haven't had a chance). looking to get the steering box replaced as the steering sits at a wonky angle. And driving get tiring.
have already paid school fees with some suppliers but hey poorer yet wiser. An awesome forum member has offered me an original Westy interior, will be awesome to get that in there. other than that, hoping to make it to KKK, then get the bus down to durbs for a complete respray and stuff, then hopefully ready for my Wedding, (probably not but have a back up... pics will be taken)
coolios, if anybody has a full set of Hubcaps, I will be interested. Or should I go with 15'' wheels (rostyles or something)???
regards

Re: I have a BAYbee :D
Nice. A lot sounds familiar. I need to do the rear linkage (Bushing) on mine as well, 2nd is VERY vague..
As for Hubcaps, stand in line.. I still haven't found anything. I think there's more for sale up there in Gauteng tho.
Good luck, post some pics of the changes..
cheers
Alan

Re: I have a BAYbee :D
Glad to know im not suffering alone haha. if I find a decent set or two I will let you know, im still on the fence if I want to go with different wheel, or keep the hubcaps. I just feel I will have better handling with 15" wheels. but the look of the hupcaps does grow on you.acpaterson wrote:Nice. A lot sounds familiar. Wow that almost brought a tear to eye seeing my old Norm.

Re: I have a BAYbee :D
what a drive it was to figs. great trip and experience. Driving a bus is way different to a beetle. Bus drivers are just more laid back. All the guys with busses are so chilled. Driving my bug is definitely a different ball game. Cruising on the freeway to figs, the thumbs up and smiles were awesome. The dirty bowl in the carb wasnt soo awesome haha.
SLept in the bus for the first time, and boy was it cool. The window rubbers def need to be sorted soon as the cold air seeps into the bus and geez does it get cold. Camping is bloody awesome in a westy. Cant wait for a summer trip.

Re: I have a BAYbee :D
Haha thanks man. Will absolutely keep the memories alive. Yes the pop top is still strong as ever. Really wouldnt have figured it wasn't an original. I have started getting the "windows" on. The velcro is on, going to get a similar blue tear aways for it.64 Notchback wrote:Wow that almost brought a tear to eye seeing my old Norm.

Re: I have a BAYbee :D
So i got married a month ago, to the owner of the bus. Haha. And my biggest request for the wedding was that we have an old car as the wedding car..... oh hey we have a bus now (wanted to use my beetle also)
So the bay took my groomsmen and myself to the wedding. Massive noise with the engine (as the hooter didn't work)
The bus was a big talking point to all there. Everybody was just amazed by the interior and style. All the balies told me "well atleast you have somewhere to sleep when the wife kicks you out"

Re: I have a BAYbee :D
F@#?!ers jacked my wheels while the bus is at my uncles getting the electricals sorted. Such a bummer!!!! But yeah. Soo I'm looking for a set of 15" steelies now.
Are these available for this bus? Thinking the bigger profile will assist with the gearing and also fill in the fenders better. Anybody have a set of steelies for me? Don't need tyres. Let me know
