1967 VW Type 3 Squareback

Post by Zagan »

Hey Everyone

I am new to the A/C world.

I have another VW Mk1 Project also that kept me busy for a while (450HP Boosted ABF Velociti), which will have to take a laid back cruise now after i fell in love with this Type 3.

I was very fortunate to have found this little beaut ... so here are some of the info i have on her.

1967 VW Type 3 Squareback
1 Lady Owner (bought it brand new in '67)
47 669kms on the clock
started her up when i went to go and have a look and i drove her off back to my place
license disc still up to date

I have a few plans (mostly of ones i saw on TheSamba)

i will keep everything updated once a month as i progress with this project.

And then here's 2 pics of how i would like it to look once i am done with the project.

Zagan,

They are generally referred to as VW Type 3 Squareback VW's....but nice vehicle none the less. Please and said with respect to choice....keep her as stock as possible..they are getting harder to find in this shape. Worth more and appreciated more as well!!!!

Thanks for sharing

Beautiful car, very lucky find.
I am also one of the guys who will ask you not to modify a car that original. Its yours and you can do what you want with it, but finding good original cars is so hard to do today.
If you want to modify one, why not sell this one to me and use the cash for another car. ;-)

Thanks for the concerns ... really appreciate it.

I am still stuck in 2 minds as to exactly what i want to do.

The car is in a really good condition considering its age, including the fact that i drove it 65km back to my place, all without a problem.

I see now i forgot to post a pic of the interior, i only have one fairly decent photo for now.

Will take a proper BEFORE photoshoot within the next couple of weeks.

Zagan,

It is not everyday that you find these Type 3's in this condition...seems to be original 12v sticker on the door jamb!!! The seats are still basket weave covers. Ignition switch is always buggered...this one seems to be intact. Dash...o well...not to worry......Herman can sort you with a new molded one. Like I said before and Henry Ford said it best" you can what you want...as long as it stays original....LOL!!! Modified VW's get attention...stock ones that have been cared for.... twice as much..... if it helps. I personally would go for a nice full length roof rack, some lovely Venetian blinds, stock radio, thin white wall radials for the correct era look. Suspension stock and with loads of add vintage ons i.e. vintage era correct paraphernalia. AA badge on the back or front....and these type of things attract attention and adds value to your Type 3. The dropped, bagged, sagged, dragged VW's....are being done to death in the local and overseas scenes..be original....by keeping it original.

Regards,

thanks for the tips 51splitfanatic

i absolutely fell in love with this car over the past week or so. it gets so much attention even in the condition it is now. i have done a few trips with it now, and i have to say, its a brilliant car, and i am so glad that i found it.

i am looking at doing a complete restoration on it, but everything with original parts. :hangloose:

i also decided now that i will keep the modifying for the mk1 i have, and i ll keep this one a classic, as it should be!

I love the roofrack idea ....

cant wait to get this project going.

lets just say, the planning is on track, lets just hope the budget can keep up :puterwork: :D

Slam it!
Understand the concerns of the others with such a nice 1-owner-car but a lowering of the squareback is reversible so it's easy to get it back to stock again.

Tell you what I would do !!!!,
Take all the advice shared,...... Put it on ice. ..... Get in and drive/enjoy it for at least a year!... Let it share all the gripes it might have.
Then!'!! You might have a different idea,.. . Or be so gatvol that you want to flogg it to the nearest buyer

It is a geat car,..... Whatever you do

Ps,... I love all the options passed on to you,.......perhaps a "suttle" combination of all

If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for your car, I am looking at a similar one and don't know what to offer

Would love to own one of these, fond memories of a road trip from Cape Town to Jhb as a six year old with my dad. Also keen to know what they are selling for now and what you have decided to do with yours.
