My '71 Westfalia...beautiful restoration
Today I bought a nicely restored '71 Westfalia which requires no work other than cushions for the rear. The Westy interior was removed by the previous owner, who installed a full width rock 'roll bed and a single stool instead. He bought the vehicle from Jurgen at Grand Slam several years ago, but barely drove it and kept it garaged. It's fitted with an 1800 motor which Jurgen rebuilt at the time...I'm calling her Sunburst...

I remember this bus, I can't understand why they never drove it around, never saw it again. Still looks good

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Jacques, in your comment on Kaapse Kombi Cult (now deleted I see) you said that this bus has shoddy paint work. The kombi was restored by Jurgen at Grand Slam - are you saying his work is shoddy? You just can't help yourself, can you?
Paul, the guy who bought it had it garaged at a neighbour for most of the 5 years he owned it...He just never got round to fitting the rear cushions, so barely drove it. He found it hard to part with the Westy, but at least now it'll get some air

Nice bus Derek. I had some Westfalia stickers made for my westy and I have two spare ones if you want them. You can have them.

Nice Westfalia. What are your plans for this one?
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

Re: My '71 Westfalia...beautiful restoration
It was sold to me as a '71, but now that I have it I can see that this Westy has rims off a '69 bus, and on the reg papers it says it's a 1970 year model, so it may actually be a '69 registered in '70, which is what I suspect. I was offered the vehicle and just couldn't resist it, but it tool over three months before the deal was made, although this is the most I have ever paid for a bay window Westy...
The seller said it needed no mechanical work, but the brakes do need a going over, and the front wheels have play in them, which hopefully will be remedied by adjustment when it goes for the brakes. The curtains are currently being made up, and I'm dropping the foam and vinyl at the upholsterer on Monday for the rear rock 'n roll bed and back cushion. Once it's done I'll drive it around and decide if I keep it or sell it...The 1800 motor was rebuilt and it went up Ou Kaapse Weg in 4th, so it pulls very well. It was restored 5 years ago, and the seller put very little mileage on it since taking delivery...He went to lots of trouble to find a Westy, travelled around the country looking at several at the time, but once he found one he barely drove it...Hopefully within two weeks it'll be feeling the breeze over its roof again on a regular basis
