Hi guys,
I'm thinking about changing the engine on my beetle 1600s with a bigger aircooled engine...just for fun
I would like to make the car a bit faster.
Any suggestions of which engine to buy? I've seen a beetle with an aircooled porsche engine which enticed me
but I'm not sure how to get one and if it will be feasible.
So I'm willing to consider a bigger vw air cooled engine.
Please let me know what you guys think....
Thanks
Shaheed

Bigger engine will not give you speed by it self,
You would need to either fit bigger wheels or a longer 4th gear or both.
To drive this extra speed you can upgrade the power by either modifying your existing motor , or if your pockets as well everybody in your familys pockets are very deep, you could get a Porsche motor.
Best option is to put bigger barrels and pistons on your engine.
Sure the engine guys will chip in so lets see....

Thanks Herman....
I like the idea of modifying the existing engine as my pockets not that deep at the moment.

The modifications and power limit of the aircooled engine is limited only by your budget and your intended application.
Also, dont be overly quick to build a higher capacity engine, you pay a lot for a very little increase in cc. The 1600 is a good base to start on and once you increase its efficiency, it can really perform.
to wet your pallet - here is a video of my beetle with aircooled beetle engine (highly modified) about a year ago before I broke the gearbox.
