Beach Buggy body ID?

Post by Matt_W »

Hi all,
I wondered if anyone could ID this beach buggy style? I've seen a few of them around in Durban and wondered if it was an SA manufacturer. Struck me as unusual it's an enclosed engine.

Also v.similar in LWB variation:

Cheers! Matt

It looks like it can be a Kestrel, made by KartKraft in the 80's/early 90's

Wonder if any remnants of Kartcraft still exist as a business... nothing immediately obvious on google

(edit) I see some of the forum regulars have kartcrafts too

Give Pierre Pieterse (not a Forum member) a call on 082 901 1955 - a few years ago he sent me this pic and said that the new Kestrel body on top of the yellow buggy was the very last one from the Kartkraft factory - I am sure he will be able to give you a lot more info!

Your profile pic makes the shell look fntastic Dubster, liking the white colour scheme.

This is the one I went to see in Durban:

Well looked after by all accounts. Lady owner, had it for ages. New shocks, 1300. Newish ball joints + link pins. Ran well.

yes i trying to make it look good...at first i hated the sqaure look and garage door windscreen but thats what i love about it now...but the one i have has certain differant style ques that makes it look better...search my kart kraft buggy and have a look there,we had a big debate about these buggies shape...as for the buggy al i can say is that because it can close up like a normal car it is great for daily driving...but in the weekend take of the door or whole roof and you have a full blown buggy to play with...that buggy looks in very good nic btw...

Found the thread, will have a good read - looks like a nice build.
I like what you did at the rear end. On the one I looked at the lights looked really ugly with the width and I was thinking myself how round lights would best fit in there. I see what you mean re. the shape - yours doesn't have quite the negative angle of the blue one, and has smaller windows. Thanks for the advice dub.

This is a Kestrel fibreglass canoe, I wonder if it is from the same company?

Hi all,

Just found this thread. I have a buggy just like this manufactured in Pinetown by a company called Dornbuggy Motors. The bodies and chassis were supplied by Karcraft and then assembled by Dornbuggy Motors.
