Disc Brake Conversion

Post by Datwagen »

Hallo All,

Please i need a bit of advise? I am busy with a disc brake conversion, all round. Now as far as i know the standard master cylinder is a 17 mm or 11/16".

1. Is this correct?
2. Will this size master cylinder be sufficient for the disc brakes?
3. Is it correct that there is a 19 mm or 3/4" master cylinder available?
4. Will the bigger master cylinder be better to use?

Thanks

Are you just doing the front brakes? If so use the standard beetle master cylinder.

If you are doing all round disc brakes you need to use the Golf master cylinder.

Surely we must celebrate the guy tat invented the other three

Im tired of struggling with drums.

Which Disc kit allows the standard 5 hole rims to be refitted? Where and how? Just for the front. And then my master will do the job right?

Boxer, volkspares sells this kit for R5643 and it's got the std 5x205 pcd, don't know about replacement pads & so on, the reverse adapters will be your cheapest option(including the 4x100 golf disk kit) BUT remember they will change your offset/track of the front wheels.. 8)

Golf master cylinder works very well and gives dual circuit safety.

I used the Toni duel action MS only thing I had to do was bend the rear brake pipe under and around the MS so that it would fit. very easy to install... Oh and I had to adapt the shaft on the brake pedal as the stroke was too long and was jamming the MS when you hit the brakes....

There's a spec on the free pedal travel which is the gap between the end of that pin to the master cylinder piston.
