VDO Rev counter in Baywindows
Howzit
Thought I would share this for the guys enquiring on rev counters for a bay.
I found this way looks best.
Just get hold of some old SP beetle rev counters first.
I started with 3 I had laying around from some of my busses.
Before Pics.
Remove bezel and old glass, I don't like that stupid adjustable needle for maximum rpm, so just have some new lenses cut for R10.
I then painted the needle white to match the rest of the bay's instrument cluster. Respray the bezels and re-assemble.
The finished products now look new again and I feel match the original cluster much better now.

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Sean,....take it youdid not remove the " needle",......to paint?
I HAD ! A working coounter,......and envisaged it being "transferred"into a ghia clock housing.
Made a bit of a cock-up and removed the needle to strip further,....... Needle(indicator) came out with a VERY small shaft and all.
Waiting now for Goose,..with better eyesight than me to see if we can "fix"it andback to working ondition!
I understand there is a ex watchmaker in Eastlonden that does this type of mod?
Anybody out there with knowledge of this person ?
Ps. You did a fine job withthis lot,.......if I get mine working agian the needle will be white !!!!!!
Regards.

No, I did not remove. I shouldn't see a problem removing it though, this vdo unit has a stopper mechanism in it, so as long as it gets repositioned in the same place, I don't imagine there being a problem.

Re: VDO Rev counter in Baywindows
Awesome job Sean. Huge improvement over the SP version. Ever considered using a shortened Bay speedo needle in the rev counter?

Re: VDO Rev counter in Baywindows
Sean,......tip we snapped of the shaft connected to the needle.....
So now we have found another,.....but this one is to go into goose's single cab bay.
It is togo into the spot occupied by ,.......nothing on the right of the speedo.
Without running the riskto mess up again or re-inventthe wheel,.........what are your tips to avoid another crying /cursing session of note ?
Regards Nick
