Backfiring Bay!

Post by Dannyg »

Hi Guys. I have a '76 Bay which has been redone during the past year. I have a problem with it. When I drive it sometimes jerks & backfires. When I accelerate it stops. As soon as you cruise at a constant speed, it gives a jerk again. This does not happen every time I use it. One day it will drive like a dream, and the next day it will jerk and misfire. The points have also been burnt closed on two occasions now. Any advice?

Sounds like an ignition problem too, points are often burnt due to incorrect coil. What style of coil is installed?
