Manufacture date help

Post by Ed Woodward »

Hi All,

It's my first post ,and I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction

I have a 75 fleetline pick up and cannot get an official confirmation of it's manufacture date.I know it was only produced in 1975,but that is not enough information for the UK DVLA who issue registration documents. The pick up has it's VIN plate ,but I can't find any records to date it by month of manufacture.

Thanks in advance.

Ed

if you have SA papers for it, it should state "Date of 1st registration"

The Vin number will tell you nothing, as all records of that time where lost in fire.

Thanks for the reply Herman. Unfortunately it came with no SA papers.

Not quite nothing from the VIN. Fleetline VINs all start with 205X. The thrid digit, ie, 5, signifies 1975 production year. The fourth digit will be either: 3=kombi, 1=panelvan, or 6=pick-up. According to the Commercial Vehicle Data Digest, Fleetline production began in November 1974 and ended in March 1976. CVDD has been known to make errors. Regardless of those dates, I have never seen a split windscreen Fleetline with anything other than a 1975 VIN.

For more info on Fleetlines, read this thread: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=9014

Thanks for clearing that up Fig.

No what I meant was the month of manufacture was not recorded, and even if the vin said 1975, you still not sure if it was registered in 1975 or 1976

my Fleetline has the following Vin 214211****

The papers say its a 1974 registration and its a PanelVan

So all numbers are not known by the looks of things as my vin is 21***** but built before the 20******

The plot thickens ...

Thanks guys,

Fig I actually had read that thread a while back ,and using the info deciphered my sc. My vin is 2056000*** .The problem i have is that DVLA in the UK want more than just proof of year of manufacture, they want a date and evidence of how the date was sourced. I have hit a bit of wall, but I'll keep trying to get more info otherwise i am gonna own a very expensive paperweight in the shape of an sc.

Herman, that VIN belongs to a 1974 baywindow panelvan. As you probably know, Fleetlines didn't have the VINs stamped on the body; only on the (removeable) plate.

From previous threads here on the forum, a couple of UK guys have hit a brick wall with imported cars

In a lot of cases, the date of 1st registration is shown as 01/01/19** and as we all know, public servants do not work on public holidays.

But this happens a lot on SA papers, as the exact date is not know, or un-willingness to accept the date offered.

Maybe do a search on The Samba, to find out what others have done.

Good luck
