disc break conversion problems.

Post by Henkdebruym »

Morning peeps. I boaght i disc break kit for my buggy as it is difficult to get new drums. It all bolted on very nicely and looks great. I bled the system but could not get any pedal preasure. i then blanked off the back breaks and bled the front again. Still no preasure. I then installed a new 22mm master. New rubber hoses and new pipes and fittings. Bled it again. My wife is fed up with me as she the one doing all the pumping. Bled almost 2L of flued , still no preasure. Please guys i need advice. cost me a shit load of money to date. the kit came with 2 x callipars , 2 x discs , break shoes , rubber hoses , 2 x hubbs and bearings .

blank off the front and back brakes to check if you can get pressure on the master cylinder. This will prove if the master cyl is OK.
blank off the back brakes to check if you have pressure in the front. This will prove if the front calipers are OK. If calipers are bad, then recon both or blank off left or right to figure out which one is bad.

From memory, master cylinder needs to be higher than the calipers. And the air bleed nipples need to be the highest point on the caliper.

Tony has hit it on its head

These things are marked incorrect if I go buy my set, you need to swop them around, so that the bleed nipple is on top, also when you bleed, try use a pipe from the nipple to the catch bottle, as you suck air back in during bleeding.

Make sure the pipe from the nipple is into the brake fluid in the catch bottle to stop air going back.

The normal way of bleeding will not give you the rush of oil to move all the air out the system, If you fit a pipe, you can open the bleed nipple bigger, and just pump, make sure you do not run out of brake fluid or you will start again.

Good luck

I suspect that the MC is the issue, and likely one of the cheap ass China item, I had the same issue as you, got a TRW Varga MC, problem solved. Never bothered opening up the China item, just returned it for a refund.
