WANTED - INFORMATION on the 1980 Type1 1600 Vanagon engine
Howzit Gents, I have a Type 1 (CT code) 1600 Vanagon engine in my Evans Volksplane (VP1) I have been searching the web for info on these engines with very little success.
If anyone has more info on these engines for me I would appreciate it.

Re: WANTED - INFORMATION on the 1980 Type1 1600 Vanagon engine
Hi Cedric , im no expert but as far as I know "vanagons" are T3's and they were never fitted with Type1 engines , as you know the vw aircooled engines have been used in allot of different Aero applications but with that being said after they have been converted for aircraft they have little to no similarities to aircooled automotive engines.
My biggest fear is that my wife sells my cars for what i told her they cost !!

Re: WANTED - INFORMATION on the 1980 Type1 1600 Vanagon engine
In fact, the early air-cooled T3 buses were offered with type1 engines as an option. I had previously thought this option wasn't available in SA. However, I recently acquired a bunch of VWSA T3 sales brochures and they show that the early air-coled T3 panelvans in SA could be ordered with a 1600 type1 engine. I doubt many were ordered with this option, or if many have survived.

Re: WANTED - INFORMATION on the 1980 Type1 1600 Vanagon engine
You are correct fig, from what I can find out this wasnt a popular setup due to the type 1 1600 being a bit lig in die broek.
However there is a difference with my type 1 engine in that it has a build in oil filter on the side under the dizy hence CT engine or CT code.
Myne was bored and converted to a 2.1L when it was converted for aero use. From what I can find out its a type 1 long block with a type 4 oil system but can find anymore info on it.
Will try and post a picture.

I few years back Dave Rowley in CT had a few of these T1 engines with a spin oil filter adapter cast into the block, he did mention they were for the Aero market? He could maybe help with some info.

Re: WANTED - INFORMATION on the 1980 Type1 1600 Vanagon engine
Cedric, have a look at the Haynes T3 bus manual; it covers the type1 engine.
If these engines are aero specific, maybe chat to Arno van Wyk from Andreno in Villiersdorp. He builds aero engines using a custom case specifically for aircraft engines. He says they can't be used for cars.

I know Arno had some of those cases a few years ago.
Some where a bell is ringing that tells me those cases use hydraulic cam followers - but dont quote me on this
