Late model Type 4.....2.0 litre square port head motor from a T25

By how do you mean exchange? The second pic is of a 1700 411 motor.

The 2l motor and 1700 differ substantially if you comparing internal components.

As Sean said... The 1700 from a type 4 car differs from the 2L CU engine, like different camshaft and torque curve, tinware differs from kombi, clutch disc having different splines, to name just a few differences.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).
