tar boards???

Post by Jessescott »

hi guys, ive got a 1970 beetle. im busy redoing the inside floorpan and carpets etc.

i would like abit of advice on what type of rust protection paint that you can recommend for my floor pan and then also what can i replace the old tar boards with? ive heard of the guys using this sound deadening foil mat. what do you think?

another thing is what is the origanal carpet/mats that they used or what is a good option to use now?

thanks for the help.

I Used abe Super laykold tape on all my cars, heating with heat gun to make it tacky and painting black over the silver foil before fitting carpets.

Cost effective and works well for sound and water proofing.

But you MUST heat the tape before pressing down to get air out.

I was doing some reading online a few months back and came across a few links about the waterproofing tape like Herman posted.
Apparently, the tape made for automotive uses is missing a few ingredients which the cheaper tape has... these ingredients let off a chemical smell/gas into the car on hot days which the like of dynomat dont.
So they may be less healthy for you in the long run...
If this is true, I dont know...

Not picking a fight with you Tony BUT

Sounds like a statement that Dynomat would post.....

Is this another Facebook "Fact"

Logic contradicts this statement as..

abe Super laykold is used in fish ponds and Concrete water proofing, with run off going into storm water drains.

Have had Mine in for many years, and know a number of collectors that have been using it for years, and they all getting far too old to be contaminated.

All farm animals would be effected if this was true, as all dams are sealed with this product.

And lastly. I would be dead as I heated the tape to melting point, without toxic gas coming off and effecting me, and I am asthmatic, so I would have picked it up instantly.

OFF the abe Website under Health and safety..... Cured super laykold tape is inert and harmless.

OMO

as I said, I dont know if its true or not.

I dont believe advertising as much as some people do. So for that reason alone, I stay away from sales pitch.
But its something that I read somewhere and I remember it.
Maybe the chemicals (if any) are activated by heat (lets say on your roof?) and those compounds flash off after a short while...
I do know that it doesnt matter which product you use, they stink while you work with them and I'm pretty sure that stink is generated from some sort of chemical which probably isnt as good for you as smelling fresh roses.
Or maybe I remember wrong and its the automotive product that lets off less smell?
And you write: "Cured...tape is inert." -- maybe you dont want to breathe it in while it is curing?

Yip,...don't know about fumes whilst placing it,.... what I can attest to is that certian orifices are known to be giving off a bit more flatulance when placed in confined spaces and at awkward angles!!......you get the idea?

I am not known for picking up fights,....please!

No Fight, Tony is a very knowledgeable man, a gentleman, and highly respected by me,

Mine was only an observation and result of my investigation before using the product.

And not sure which product he is referring to, as this may not be the same one refereed to.

All good my me. :D

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.
