Removal of steering colunm tube from bay

Post by 64 Notchback »

Hi all.

AS the topic reads we now have the last item to remove from the Bay SC before we cut it up the steering wheel is still attached to the column but the outer tube is still stuck in the cab floor and the steering box is loose as is the bracket that fastens under the dash.
We have a buyer for the complete steering column so don't want to damage the outer tube as well as the front nose.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks spicydave
But if they are the ones that bolts through the beam, those have already been removed (the steering box is completely loose) it is the tube that runs inside through the cab floor that will not come out of the S box.
I do see that there are some bolts on the top of the box where the tube enters the box could this be the ones?

I think those Brazilia busses made use of the steering column varities as used on the splits, so the tube is attached to the steering box.

If it is the case, the steering wheel must be removed that you can slide the tube (complete steering column and box) out the floor. The bus must be lifted up high that the length of the tube can exit through the floor. It should have mounting bolts on the side and bottom of the steering box and then the bracket and ignition lock which attaches to the dashboard. Both must have the bolts removed and it should easily came out.

Don't remove the 4 bolts that attached the columns outer tube to the steering box, remove it as a whole, otherwise you going to have the internals coming out.
