Post by dixtoy »

If you fit an external oil filter is it still necessary to fit a oil strainer?

I would say yes as the strainer is protecting the oil pump from picking up foreign objects from entering the oil pump and the oil filter keeps the oil clean. My 2c worth in short.

and the strainer stops the pickup tube from rattling around and falling out - ok, it is still bolted on, but the strainer helps - plus it doesnt provide a restriction, so why take it out?

I was thinking to tap a oil temp sensor into the plate and I think the strainer will be in the way. I’ll leave it and do something at the drain plug
