Balljoints, 4 women & a baywindow.

Post by Dawie »

Came across this yellow baywindow, converted as a mobile pub. Operated by 4 women. They have a booking near Mossel bay, and had the vehicle towed all the way from Cape town. To honour their booking.

Problem is the suspension's ball joints. Makes noises and rubbers are kaput. They have to either get it towed back to Cape town after Newyears eve, or get it fixed in Mossel bay.

Any suggestions who in Mosselbay they could contact, (except for that ex cpt beete sods/ods lot). Or an alternative way to transport their vehicle back to Cape Town?

not knowing the extent of damage, but surely it can be run at a respectable pace with out any fear of an accident.

If you tow it or drive it, the distance stays the same.

Personally i would attempt to drive it carefully and slowly. These women were advised by someone in Cape Town that its unsafe for them to drive and the vehicle was loaded on a trailer, R4000 later delivered near Mosselbaai/Fransmanshoek. (Maybe i used the wrong wording, my first time connecting via cell to the website).

I do not know the owners, just came across the situation.

One would hope they can fix the problem there and save getting it towed back to CT,I would not be brave enough to tell them to drive it without some sort of inspection being carried out.Lets hope all goes well and they have a great time. Thanks Dawie for taking the trouble to help the ladies good on you.
If they have to tow it there should be break down vehicles running back or going to CT empty so best the search the towing company just ask for reduced rate.
I am sure after a few drinks some one will do the right thing and help them out.
Or we can send these guys out to help, they like the high life.Click on the picture for full effects

Spoke to Philip on that number, seems he lives in and operates from Jhb. Maybe wrong number.

Another option might be those guys who pumps the molten plastic rubbish into the joints? Only as a temporary fix just to get the vehicle back and then have it fixed properly?

Fully agree with you, maybe find a guy to drill 6mm holes into the ball joints, as I have done, and fit grease nipples, as the grease has nowhere to go, it will carry the joint for many kilometers.

Maybe have a mechanically minded guy have a look at it as the tow guys would say something like that to get the business.

Maybe a forum member in that area.

Is it a creamy yellow and white late bay ?

I came across some female travellers on the N2 before Riviersonderend steaming at a steady pace today - a lovely sight, but unfortunately a tad to fast for a shot on the camera. I was headed Cape Town bound and them in the opposite direction.

Always a lekker moment when two Kombis pass in the opposite direction, lights flashing and happy hands out the windows :)

Anyway, I hope it was them all sorted out ....

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Seems they found someone in George who might be able to assist. It is a Gauteng registered vehicle which they got recently. Bright yellow and white so not the one Paul saw. Toyota conversion with hole in the front/ radiator in the cab.

I'm back at home in Cape town now, (using desktop computer instead of cell phone for posting), so no more contact with them.
