1600 tp

Post by Vintage man »

Will a 1600 tp single carb engine push a bus around nicely .I know it will be slow but financially it's what I can do.The 1600 is a bus motor as it has the 3 holes for the cross member.
Is the parts availability better than the 2L engines..
In short ,76 bus ,1600 engine ,3 fin gear box. Conversion cooling plates.
All I want to do is drive ,arse is burning but so is wallet.

HOWDY VINTAGE MAN.

I KNOW OF A LOT OF GUYS ON AND OFF THE FORUM THAT RUN THEIR BUSSES ON A REGULAR BASIS WITH THE 1600 ENGINE. SOME OF THEM, LIKE SEAN, JOLAS AND FIG DO SOME CRAZY-MAD TRAVELLING WITH THEIR BUSSES........ LIKE A QUICK JNB-DBN-JNB IN A DAY OR A CPT-BFN-JNB-DBN-CPT ROUND TRIP IN A WEEK OR SO????
CYNDI AND I HAVE ENDEAVOURED TO MATCH THE ADVENTUROUS SPIRITS OF THESE BRAVE SOULS FROM TIME TO TIME AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE RESULTS.
AS FAR AS PARTS AVAILABILITY ETC. GOES........
1600 SPARES DEFINITELY MORE FREELY AVAILABLE AND ALSO SLIGHTLY CHEAPER.
I KNOW THE BURN.
WE ALL KNOW THE BURN.

I used to push my buses (foot flat) but a good friend Klaus once told me to chill and slow down.
Now I cruise (flat or downhill) at 80-90 happy days  The best part is now enjoying the journey.

My Westy was a 1600 sp and used to happily chug along at 80km loaded and pulling a trailer.
just the uphills was abit slow.
