BAYWINDOW 2.0 EXHAUST MANIFOLD PIPES

Post by Jack Nel »

What is the best way to go about replacing the exhaust manifold pipes which joins to the silencer on my 2.0 Baywindow?

Should I try and order from one of the aircooled suppliers or maybe even import or will someone like Powerflow be able to make them up, what will be most economical and sensible?

Your advice please

Hi Jack,
If you find a good solution I am also looking for a new pipe for my 2L Autovilla.
I believe a good flowing pipe will give us a few more pips :hangloose:

PowerFlow would be your best option, as they make them up as you wait, with Stainless steel.

Or you can go to an Tuffex dealer, they normally carry VW aircooled exhausts in mild steel or S/Steel.

Both have given me good service.

I have a after market exhaust on my Early Bay 1600 and I just love the noise of it.It has 2 tail pipes and was made by TNT Germiston heard they where closing then they are not so best to call them. They are still going R2500 fitted so loose set will be cheaper.I can post a picture of my system if needed.

2L engine is very different to your 1600 Terry.
Cowley has "performance" systems on the shelf for the 2L, but it starts where the heater box ends, not at the head.
If you want it made from the head, then you'll likely have to make the stubs yourself before anyone will make the rest of the header

There are no heater box replacements locally for the CJ or CU 2.0l motors. You can import, but it will probably cost more than R15 000 for a set.

You can however fabricate a header out of tubing (no more heating system) utilising the cast fittings from the old heater box. The cast inlet ports on the heater box cant be replicated as its a casting, but the old pipe and heater box can be cut off and new pipes bent up to the flange. Any decent exhaust shop could make these up.

Silencer replacements are available in standard form and 4-1. This bolts onto the flanges at the end of the heater boxes.
