dog house shroud on a 1500sp

Post by John Alves »

Hi All

I have 1500 sp motor that is leaking at the oil cooler, I have a spare dog house shroud with the back plate and was thinking of doing a conversion,
Just need the oil cooler offset thingy, Is this a good idea or should I leave it as it is?

thanks

Is the fan size the same for a 1500 and a 1600?

Don't forget the conversion oil cooler seals the ones that are 8mm on one side and 10mm on the other. The 1600 TP has a wider fan than the 1500 SP but the diameter is the same

It's a good idea. You will need more than just the doghouse shroud and oil cooler and cooler base. You'll also need the 2 tins that make up the ducting for the warmed air to leave the engine compartment, and also the front (FIF) valence with the slot for the duct to pass through (or you could cut the slot in your existing front (FIF) tin. If you want to get really pedantic, you will also need the "Hoover bit" (google it) that seals the gap between the base of the oil cooler and the shroud.

Twinport engines also use a 35mm deep fan, as opposed to the 33mm fan in single port engines. It's worth buying a new 35mm.

I thought I had all the bits, but unfortunately don't have all the tins, so will be a later project
Thanks for all your help

Shelleys is closed.
Apparently owner got real sick and closed/ sold up.
I was there a few months ago and it's a new business
