Did you take one on the distributor Body and maybe inside the cap (need to stop and remove cap fast and read shaft inside)

Electronics normally have a temp warning of 60 degC

No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

A different angle...

Not perhaps a large bunch of keys swinging on a worn out ignition switch?

Tried driving with the engine lid open/removed, to eliminate possible heat issue?

Yes I have always used NGK plugs but had a set of Champions and decided to use them instead

After fiddling with a million things again with no improvement I decided to take the dizzy cap off and clean the terminals on the cap and rotor again,
but this time found the the central terminal on the cap was missing, I had not noticed this before (dum ass) replaced with another cap and it has improved the situation by 80% the miss is still there but very slight and now at all temperatures. Incidentally, I have a short on the rear right light,No plate light and from dim circuit causing fuse
blowing out. I have driven the car with blown fuse until I have time to track it down and fix it. Could this cause any problem even though fuse has blown
and no power is flowing through that circuit?

This might not be related to your problems but I found that some (if not most) replacement fuel pumps you get nowadays push out fuel at too high a pressure. I've read somewhere that Solex carbs like something at around 2.8 psi. I plumbed a fuel pressure gauge in my Beetle to check the pressure of a brand new replacement pump I bought from Midas. It read 6 psi. I replaced it with a small Brosol pump I had in my parts bin and obtained a reading of 3.2psi. My engine seems much happier now.

this definitely an electrical fault as its a split second intermittent cut out rather that a fuel starvation fade

Tracked down the short in the circuit mentioned before, (pinched wire) repaired it, no more fuse blowing, but still has a miss albeit to a lesser degree since I replaced the dizzy cap. The mission continues

take a direct wire from your battery to the ignition system, and see if your problem is over, maybe you have an bad ignition switch with bad contact.

Also check your earth strap from body to gearbox.

Maybe run an separate earth from the battery as well, just to make sure.
