Engine 1600 tp

Morning all.

How long can you run a fully rebuilt engine for on a test stand.Everything is connected and complete.

If you have all the tins on, and you have air flow taking the heat away from under the engine, you should be able to run it indefinite.

VW aircooled motors have had stationary engines working for years.

Thank you once again Retrovan ,All tins fitted i want to run it to see if all is good and no oil leaks.

If you have done it up, you should "Run-it-in" for 20 minutes at 1200rpm without stop or interruptions for the cam followers to seat.

It should be run under load so the rings expand up against the bore.running in a engine under no load will or can glaze the bores but if you cant test and run it in then you can do as you say.When you do run it in load the engine like do 40kph accelerate up to 80 take your foot off the accelerator let the car slow down under its own compression repeat 5 times then drive it normal for 10kms and repeat the procedure by then your rings would have bedded them selfs in the bore.Just make sure you re check the oil level at the end.use a SAE30 OR 40 as multi grade oils have a teflon base meaning the rings cant bed in proper. Trust me this method works just dont over do it.Listen for any odd sounds and check for oil leak.I say this method worked but all the clearances need to be in spec.I am not held responsible if something happens to the engine but running a engine under no load is not the best way of running it in.

No Herman...
new cam and lifters - minimum is 2500rpm, ideally varying between 2500 and 3500 for the first 15 minutes. The lifters only get splash fed oil, and you want as much oil as you can get...

good advise.
I am not scared to do it with multigrade, I've never had a problem seating rings with a good multigrade. Maybe it just takes a few km more?
Dont be scared to find a big hill to load up the engine or use your handbrake to add load, just make sure you dont overheat the brakes.
