Starter motor bolt length ?

Post by Madbones »

Greetings,
Finally got the 2L motor back in the Autovilla. Summer is here and looking forward to an Autovilla campout.
Purchased a brand new bolt kit from Volkspares for a 2L kombi but the top bolts are just too short.

It does seem the half moon bolt is longer for the Bay kombi based on the wrong bolt supplied?
Called Volksapares and they don't have longer bolts any suggestion from the brotherhood/sisterhood?
Where can I buy the correct bolt or can I use any bolt of the correct length, strength being my concern.
Thank you.

The std bolt will hold it, as the tension is not that much.

The best bolt would be a 8.8 H/T and you weld a leg onto the head so it will not turn

The 2L type 4 gearbox bellhousing needs longer bolts. The kit they supplied is for beetle or 1600 / 1800 bus.

Purchase 8.8 high tensile bolts. You can machine the head that it locates into the starter motor and doesn't turn when tightening.
