Box jumping out of 4th?

Ok,...done the bush and link in the rear,...mounting is perfect,.....adjusted it to moer and back,......still doing it

Suspect the slider/ syncro thinghy between 3rd and 4th to be the problem,......according to aunt Google??

Now, I understand that the gear pack can be removed and this ."thinghy" can be replaced, But you need specialised tools AND skills. Is this a fact?

Talk to me

From the experience collected from my Bay Bus gearbox saga, and the slipping out of 4 gears I can say its due to;...

The thinamabobs in your watsemecall it, is not wattever into you know.

This means that no matter how you giggle it by dingising it you will not get it to what ever, you know what I mean ??.

so my wife''s diagnostics need to be translated.

So to put it in VW volks words, its not locking into the gear and you need to remove the box and send it to Bugger transmissions.

Its a gearbox thing, not a setting thing.

This is unfortunately true. The first thing you need is the appropriate jig to set all the clearances on the bench before feeding all the gears back into the box. Anyone can obtain one of these. The second thing you need is EXPERIENCE. Those who have tried to set up a gearbox, using the correct jig, and who have then assembled the whole shebang and reinstalled it in the car, only to find the box jumps out of one or more gears, will agree that this is a task best left to people who do it every day.

Ok thanks for all the advice,....leave it to a "pro",...

In the mean time we purchased another box!,....probably the more sane option.

I would rather have sorted the issue out with the original gearbox. As there is no way of knowing the condition of a second hand box, you will be doing all the work over to just find out its also got issues. You may get a lucky packet and its alright, but chances are slim. Old vehicles getting stripped for parts are not well looked after examples....

I don't know vw boxes but in general we would check the selector spring and ball, some times we would just put a new spring and ball in or a stronger spring I am not saying its the solution it might be a bigger problem but worth looking into. My2c

So Haans, now you can help the new owner and forward him/her Bugger's offer to sort out the box.
