Just want to find out what the best primer to use on welded patch panel areas, paint shop sold me luxor 1k etch primer and told me to use this on the repaired areas and then put the body filler on top of it. Is this the best route to go isn't body filler meant to go on the bare metal and then primer. Is there a better primer to use like a 2k filler primer or must I use etch primer first what about ms primer or an epoxy primer.

FIRSTLY; LUXOR IS A WELL RECOGNISED BRAND AND IS A GOOD PRODUCT.
BODY PUTTY (WHICH ALSO VARIES GREATLY IN QUALITY AND TEXTURE) CAN BE APPLIED TO BOTH BARE METAL AND ON TOP OF PAINT, SO LONG AS THE SURFACE HAS BEEN PREPARED CORRECTLY.
I DO PREFER TO GO STRAIGHT ONTO BARE METAL IF POSSIBLE BUT HAVE ON MANY OCCASIONS PUTTIED ONTO PAINTED SURFACES; FROM ETCH PRIMER, FILLER (MS) PRIMER, MS4 (OXIDE PRIMER) AND RIGHT UP TO TOP COATS.

ETCHING OVER THE WELD MAY BE A GOOD IDEA AS THE PAINT IS THINNER THAN THE PUTTY AND WOULD MOST LIKELY GET INTO ALL THE NOOKS AND CRANNIES THAT THE PUTTY MAY NOT, THEREBY GIVING A BIT MORE RUST PREVENTION.
I'VE NEVER USED EPOXY PRIMER OR PAINT SO I CANNOT COMMENT ON THEIR RUST INHIBITING PROPERTIES.

If you use a Etch 2K epoxy primer, this will give you protection on pinhole rust as long as thickly covered, and it a nice protection to leave for some time before top coating.

Will also do a bit of filling and sands very nicely.

A 2k epoxy primer is by far the best primer for area's worked on. Apply this first. It leaves a very nice rough surface to apply the filler afterwards as well as ensuring its properly sealed to prevent rusting. A HS (high solid) primer can be used on top of your filler work before final top coat.

Thanks guys 2k epoxy primer it will be then body filler then high solid primer. The car might stand in primer over the repaired areas for a few weeks so if 2k epoxy primer gives it added protection that's an added plus

If you coat it with 3 thin coats making sure its fully covered, you should have approx. 3 to 6 months of protection before applying the top and clear coats.

And if you not ready in that time, you can spray yet another coat of primer. this I would do anyway just before applying the filler and top coat just to lock in the adhesion again.
