Crank pulley leaking oil

Post by John Alves »

Ive noticed on my 1500 SP that there is an oil leak out of the crank pulley, at first I noticed oil on my vacuum advance canister which confused me for a while, all my searches state that this should never happen as the pulley actually sucks air into the crank case and therefore oil cannot escape.
Is this true? if so, how can my one be leaking?

thanks

It has a through back spiral on it and will only leak when standing with too much oil

OR

You have an undersized pulley.

it does push air into the case
if it is leaking, you have pressure problems, usually from worn rings

looks stock to me, what should the size be?
oil level is personally checked by me and never too full

Vents fitted to tappet cover,...see pic then pipe is relayed up to the EMPI collector box above the engine shroud also vent from altenator pedastal to box.
I think you need to check the little "baffle" in between the pedestal and the crank case,.....could be blocked.

I firmly believe in my contraption,....not expensive !

Talk to me if you need more clarity

You would have to take the pulley off and measure both, the manual gives a tolerance allowed.

Due to wear your pulley could be worn or an undersized after market pulley has been fitted.

Std sp 1600 engine,.....but I believe the case pressure buildup is too much to go via the std vent in the pedestal,..hence the breathing space via the tappet covers as well!
Traveled back from George in a "spirited" fashion with an anglia estate on my arse !......and the engine is bone dry!
Got it from FFR in CT

Check pulley sizing as per Herman,....if your issue started not long ago ,.......check the vent under pedestal as mentioned
