Beetle window washer

Post by jacquesbotha »

Has anybody changed the window washer on their Beetle to an electrical unit? How did you do it, and parts from which vehicle did you use? I'm thinking of using the reservoir from a MK1 Golf, and fitting a microswitch to the wiper/washer stalk on the steering column, where the normal valve is, and just add a relay in line to be on the safe side. I've seen a lot of good ideas on The Samba, but we all know that the overseas models were vastly different to the SA models.

I used a mk1 golf bottle with internal pump.
switched under dash worked well
No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

John, where did you mount the bottle, maybe a pic or two if you have?

I don't have that car anymore, but as far as I remember it was mounted to the side near the hinge spring and brake fluid reservoir.
I think I used the rear window washer from the golf, might be smaller than the front one. It was a long time ago so the memory fails me
