This debate could last forever. Its like asking whats better, blondes or brunettes? You could go for an SQ setup or and SPL setup, personal preferance is what it comes down too man. Beetles are a good canvas for sp as the size and shape suit it. It also is great for sq. Staging is easy. What type of sound are you aiming for? What type of music do you generally listen to? Also brands differ. Some expensive brands perform krap compared to lower end 1s. Rather go listen to some different installs and decide from there.

If you are on a budget, check out the Rockford Fosgate Prime range.

It is very well priced and allows you entry into the RF range.

Subwoofers are 10" and 12" respectively. Designed to perform in sealed enclosures from 21,24 and 28,88 liters respectively.

Amplifiers are a Monoblock, a 2channel and a 4 channel

Loudspeakers are coaxial in 5¼" 6½" and 6x9"

A good basic system could be the Rockford Fosgate Prime R300-4 amplifier, one RF Prime R1S412 subwoofer in a sealed enclosure and one set of RF Prime R1653 speakers as a front stage. Use a decent MP3 player with seperate RCA outputs for speakers and subwoofer. It is recommended to get a unit with at least 4 Volt RCA outputs. Use Rockford Fosgate RFK4X wiring kit.

Subwoofer in sealed enclosure in the "dog box", amp under the rear seat, loudspeakers in the front doors or in custom kick panels in the footwells.

Seeing as you are in the USA, try Wallmart as supplier.

I find Rockford a bit too expensive, I have a bit of every brand. Just pop down to a local audio shop and you will get a good idea of what the general prices are.

I don't know about beatles, but the norm with sound systems (in my group of pals) is usually a subwoofer, an amp, split sets in the front (which is a speaker and a tweeter) and then 2 6x9inch speakers at the back. Don't be tempted into buying a cheap amp, that never works out.

Bugspray is right though, there are so many variations and brands out there that its completely up to you

This system retails in SA for R5176.63 V.A.T. included. (That is about $528 US) Excluded is labour and the radio.

Rockford is class leading. In South Africa it is a bit pricey. Maybe you have it cheaper. Also Hertz and infinity are good products, offer excellent response and clarity. Always remember that you amp should always be more powerful than you speakers. And maybe an extra battery would be a good idea. A thick guage cable is also a must. The lesser the resistance, the better the response.
Haha Tom the speaker next to the speedo is ultimate stealth hahaha.

Rockford Fosgate Prime is a new range being launched this week and price wise is better priced than brands like Hertz (which I also stocked for a while)

If you on a budget go for star sound . A 4 channel amp , splits , or 6x9 and a sub (or 2 ) wil cost you under R5000 and you wil be suprized of the sound you wil have. I have R40 000 ( JL Audio ) of sound in my bug and that gives me 147dbs , and that starsound system should get you close to 135dbs if properly instaled.
