Ford Essex V6 Pipe car / buggy

A friend and I have decided to build a pipecar with a Ford essex 3.0 V6 motor. :drunks:
I've read the thread about GeorgeB's idea to also use the eninge but in a street car, apparently you guys don't like WC motors :mrgreen: .
The reason behind the V6 is becuase he already has the motors, one has been rebuilt as standard and the other one running stage 3 and methanol to use it in his Suzuki SJ.
1. Now I'd like to know where in Cape Town I could find an place to machine or sell an adapter plate to use the V6 on the beetle garbox.
2. What's the weight on a 1400 nissan and 1600 beetle egine? The Ford is quite heavy at 172kg, but it's shorter than a 4L.
3. The 1600 gearbox should be able to handle the power and torque of the V6 ( 105kw) as standard right?

thats a kuk heavy engine. I can pick up a 1600 engine solo, which puts it around 50kg.
I hope you like oversteer.

105kW for a 3l V6. I honestly wouldnt think it is worth the effort. But as you say, you have it already.
The gearbox should be able to handle the power, but it depends on how you drive and how well you setup your suspension. If you keep it in the sand you should be ok, going mad over rippled gravel will kill the box if you put your foot down.

These were very popular conversions for baywindow busses, so the Type 2 type 2 (not a typo) gearbox would be best and you should be able to hunt down an adapter plate. The gearboxes did not last long, apparently 1st gear shat the bed most often. Good luck with it... :D

The Essex motor was very unrefined, decent branches and balaced motor could run around 125kw but what I'm after with the engine is it's nice strong torque and power curve from low revs like the vw ac motors.
Yeah it's a lekker vet engine! Overstreer will be much wellcome.
My problem is I have none mechanical experience with building a car, but I'm quite practical so very keen on learning

Years ago i had a pipecar with a ford v6 engine and type 2 bus rear suspension and gearbox.
That were before digital cameras, so i'll see if i still got some photos to scan and post.

I'm not a expert on engines, but if I'm not mistaken those frotV6 engines were the best conversions in the older hilux 4x4's

Adaptor plates and flywheel conversions done at Northern Engineering in Connaught street Parow.
Why do we celebrate the guy that invented the wheel??
Surely we must celebrate the guy tat invented the other three

This is going to cause major upgrades to the whole car, I think I should just go the L4 route for now
