@Ron I have a rotary conversion in my bug and the exhaust also comes out underneath the car. I am also going to look at rerouting the exhaust to come out of the stock holes just slightly bigger pipes.

Ron&Gill wrote:Sorry, but kak! Those two tail pipes are not the same as stock peashooters. In fact, they look each the same as to one waiting for driveways. Therefore, you can get 4 times the flow through those two than you can get through the one (it's a quadratic equation, by the way...). It is about the flow through the silencer, but not volume, is my guess.
Well why don't you build a performance exhaust which exits with the two pipes in standard location. I think the whole aircooled comunity will be grateful for that!

WHY? Pierre just did, I'm just trying to find out why he doesn't exhaust out the two tails instead of the driveway grubber. WTF! It's proving to be quite testing to get an answer though...

Ron&Gill wrote:I saw that. But I still don't have an answer to my question... Say the client had said, "Yes, I do want the two rear ones to be the real exhausts and I want you cut off and close the one that catches on the driveway, and here is lots of money for it... Lots!" What could/would you have done?
Ok If really wanted to use 2 working tailpipes then I would just after the Turbo fit a split merge collector that split to both sides of the beetle but space is always a problem and I do fit the Fuel surge tank in the back right hand side of the beetle so freferably I do not want to split the Exhaust in to 2 as to keep the heat all to the left side of the Beetle and at the end of the day it is more pipes and silencers which add weight to the Bug
and with Experience the Single 63mm pipe works best

So that should answer your Q Mr Metz

You can't cut off and close the drive-way scraper and cut two holes in the side of the silencer and have the two working tail pipes?

63mm sounds like a good size, 2 and a half inch. 'Bout the same as on the Razor. I need to pm you with another question...

Think problem is that pipe enters from the left right next to left tail pipe. Not much distance left for silencing, it would be noisy if one cuts a hole there.

Other problem is reduced space in that position. The wbx's rear engine hanger also lives there. Maybe best to just have an "F" shaped pipe splitter there, and the silencer has to live elsewhere. Or a split from the turbo to each side and 2 silencers. But, in this application, "elsewhere" there is also space restrictions, and issues of unwanted radiated heat, as mentioned by Bugger.

A beetle engine compartment can become quite cramped. (Bodywork on the sides of engine compartment and rear valance often restrict our options). A silencer under the rear fenders might be an option, unless wider rear tyres take up that space. The silencers would then have to be removed for access to valve covers.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

Poerformance wise the single in and single out works best and not split on the silencer in to 2
And space problems it is easy to spend 15K on a Exhaust system when you Quote a Client to ad a Turbo to a motor it will be R17K so
Buget is also a major factor
I can get carried away with Exhaust Systems as mentioned on the forum under a rant a exhaust shop wanted to charge R3K just to modify a Std Beetle Exhaust
So that is why no S/Steel and all fancy expencive stuff as to where the Exhaust that we have built will Flow(Flow which is the most important for me)
and get rid of the gasses

Ja, well the silencer is already there, so the configuration of the exhaust and space is obviously not the issue and has nothing to do with the problem.

Yes, I can see the problem with cutting a hole in the side, as noise is usually the result of a hole in the silencer. So the inside of the silencer should be changed to have the gasses exit on the side. The furthest most 63mm tail pipe would be best suited, with the left hand side one remaining a dummy.

I'm going to leave it there now...

I like the Dummy pipes, Only issue the “real” exhaust that’s blowing down, blows all the dust and Sh@t up coz it’s blowing straight down... I had the same problem with mine

I like your take on the exhaust Pierre. I've been thinking what I can do to replicate the look on my exhaust for the speedster and my only (well I'm fussy and I can't get away with a downpipe on mine) option was to have my local exhaust shop build me a rear silencer that would look like a twin Porsche 356 exhaust, but would attach onto my exhaust manifold from a 8v motor. I wanted mine functional and you pay for that........R1500 for just the rear box.
