http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Country_Buggy

The Country Buggy was based on an Australian-made Type 1 platform with engine, gearbox and front axle from the Type 1. The rear swing axles had reduction gears from a 1st generation Volkswagen Transporter (1950–1967).

Originally, the idea was to make the Country Buggy an amphibious vehicle, however directives from VW Germany curtailed this vision.

The Country Buggy started production in July 1967, with exports to the Philippines, Singapore, New Zealand and some small Pacific nations.

I am TOTALLY blown away by your pics!

IMPI called me this morning and told me about the pics and this thread and at first I didn't believe him but yes, that is indeed a Country Buggy and I am 100% sure it is most probably the rarest VW in South Africa, as I don't believe we have any Fridolins or Schwimmwagens here.... thanks for posting! :hangloose:

No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

i made a offer on the car yesterday, he said he would get back to me.
i will up my offer in a few days time.
the car has not moved in 12 years so its not going anywhere soon
the car belongs to a wealthy farmer so does not need the cash
but if i keep at him after a while he will budge

Did you ask him about the car's history, and how it ended up in South Africa?

Need some inspiration for the project?
