Spotted this 2 weeks ago while in Villiersdorp.





Got a chance too see what went on in this engine too. It didn't look good. Hard to believe that someone sold this as a "rebuild".

One thought i have... Any possibility that the gearbox's input shaft could be too long for some reason, or an obstruction inside large flywheel bolt? Which could have forced the flywheel/crank more backwards into the engine when the 4 engine mounting nuts were tightened. Does it still have the standard Brazilia gearbox setup?

YOU'VE SEEN IT BEFORE WE HAVE AFTER OUR EPISODE IN DECEMBER.
IT WAS SENT TO ANLENO TO BE RE-BUILT (AGAIN) AND WE ARE STILL TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO GET IT BACK THAT ISN'T GOING TO BANKRUPT US.
I'M CONFIDENT THAT ARNO HAS DONE A GOOD JOB AND I'M SURE HE'S CHECKED OUT THE GEARBOX THEORY BUT I'M INTERESTED IN YOUR COMMENT DAWIE.
WHAT MAKES YOU ASK THAT QUESTION JUST LOOKING AT THOSE PICTURES?
WE DON'T WANT A REPEAT OF OUR DECEMBER ROADTRIP FIASCO OR THE ADDED COST OF ANOTHER RE-BUILD.

Just that the replacement engine was said to develop a similar severe oil leaking problem at the crank seal shortly after installation of the second engine. Although it could be coincidence...

Could also be that crank end play was too little or non-existent.

Considering the rest of the motor, I doubt it.

The cylinders were different sizes and completely scored, it had a 1,9 WBX camshaft and assembled from mixed nuts and bolts, I am sure the engine is at fault. The second engine from Herman was also kaput.

Are you not going to take this up with the previous engine re builder?

Was it done at a legitimate workshop? If it is, make use of the RMI etc, I have and its proven to work well in my experiences.

I HAVEN'T TAKEN IT UP WITH THEM AS WE HAVEN'T GOT IT BACK YET AND DON'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT ENGINES.
I HAVE ASKED ARNO TO INCLUDE A REPORT ON EVERYTHING HE FOUND WRONG WITH IT. HE SAYS THAT HE WILL ALSO PUT ALL THE OLD STUFF IN A BOX IN THE BUS. WHEN WE FINALLY MANAGE TO GET IT BACK I WILL APPROACH THE ENGINEERING COMPANY AND THE WORKSHOP THAT PUT IT TOGETHER AND SEE WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT IT.
TO BE HONEST, I'M NOT EXPECTING ANY SYMPATHY OR REFUNDS FROM THEM.
ONE THING I AM LEARNING THOUGH IS WHO TO USE ETC....
