No. that was the whole reason the various Traffic Depts and legislation decided to convert tin plates years back. It probably says somewhere in an official book what the requirements for legal plates are, but tin plates will be long-time outlawed.
Still, it would be a hardegat officer to fine an owner of a classic 50's or 60's VW because it's got a tine plate on it. All comes down to your attitude at the time it happens I guess.

The 63 still had the tin plate licence plates on...never ever had an issue with cops, even in roadblocks.

Its only Cape that still has the old numbers.

The rest have e-natis numbers and have to be on the official approved plates.

Even it you have a tow bar and you want to fit a 2nd plate to be legal due to obstruction, the 2nd plate must be an approved plate as well and not just sticker numbers.

But this does not stop the classic car guy to fit them for shows as it give the car more provenance.

Guys remember that these are not aluminum plates they are embossed so they are vacuum formed 60 s to late 70s.
Not pressed I will be making the old Ali plates as well if anyone is interested.
