2 x Kombi Mirrors, just the glass wanted please..

Post by acpaterson »

Gents,

I'm needing to replace some mirrors, would anyone here possibly have two glass mirrors lying on a workbench please? Alternatively, old, corroded complete side mirrors. But I need clean un-scratched glass mirrors please.

thanks

Alan
(OR, Where can I get replacement mirrors cut locally in cape town? The replacements from glass people is a very magnified glass.. Can you help?) :hangloose:

Ok thanks, I#ll go see them Sean. Its actually for my Bike, also needs a custom shape, and the glass the guys put in in Montague Gardens has a ridiculous magnification on that I can't use.. I'll go see these guys at Bellville Glass and see what they have.

thanks man.

So, to update, Bellville glass do replace car mirrors, with stock house glass, which has the crap magnification built in. They don't sell automotive glass or mirror. So, Bumping this post, I'm still wanting a T2 or T3 Side mirror intact please..

Many countries like USA, Canada, etc require the drivers side mirror to only be 1:1 ratio. As in normal house mirror.

Passenger side would be convex/ aspheric. So it minifies the picture, otherwise field of view would be useless.
If importing side mirrors, make sure they are meant for rhd countries.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

Just to be clear, do you want magnification or do you not want magnification.

House /Bathroom mirror is flat and if they cut it to fit your frame, you can stick it in.

If you ask them to repair the mirror, they will put magnification in as most bike mirrors have this magnification from OEM.

So you will get what you ask for. That what I found in the past with these glass guys.

I don't want magnification, it's terrible, looks like the cars in my topbox on the bike.
My original mirror on the left is what I want, the distance etc is 100%. Apparently, all house mirrors etc is magnified, and none of these mirror places sell automotive mirror (un-magnified)
So i'm looking for a standard original Kombi mirror as that is big enough for the shape of my bike mirrors to be cut to correct shape.

I suggest you go to a truck scrap yard, get a big old truck side mirror and have two cut from that.
You can never have enough Garages :-(

Sorry but I must be stupid, or have it backwards, but I agree with Dawie.

The bikes in SA mostly have a mirror that makes things smaller so as to get more info into the field of vision and some truck have 1;3 glass. which is convex. (Bulges out to you)

The glass in house glass is flat IE. gives 1 to 1 reproduction. if you get a 2500mm by 1500 glass mirror, it is flat, it has no bent. So what comes in goes out.

Then you get cosmetic mirrors with magnification so you can see skin issues and do make-up. which is concave (Bulges inward away from you)

OMO

Herman, Ive compared 3 panes of normal bathroom mirror glass to this POS installed on the bike, it's identical, and I cannot ride like this.
A car behind me in those mirrors, LITERALLY, all I see is it's grill and headlight, it's THAT close. In my standard mirror, I can see the entire car.. At the same distance behind me (ie: a static parked car.)

There IS magnification in this crap, so I'm looking for car mirrors, not bulges, or convex, just a standard vehicle car mirror. If I look in my Polo's mirrors, it's the same size as what the correct mirror on my bike looks like..

Trust me, if you haven't seen it yourself, then you don't know what it looks like, but it's like, 2 or 3 times magnified..

Have a look at your local parts suppliers if they also stock the mirror glass like this place up here in Jhb
