Hey Manny

Good stuff man. I sent you off an email this morning RE: the badges. The post office is on strike in Gauteng, so no clue when they are going to pitch up.

Will organise something, maybe a bit of a cruise for the guys.

Update 2015

It has been a while since I posted an update on the Black Sheila. As you may know the rear seat and the front nose was modified to give it the more authentic look (thanks to Roger and Gary) . Due to my to limited time in SA I had to outsource most of the work to speedup the completion ,all that was needed is to have the suspension work, minor engine work and wiring to be done, I did send a few quotes to several workshops in the meantime I got well acquainted with Armand and as we where discussion VW and Porsche topics I realized he shares the same passion as I do, I thought let me ask if he would consider quoting me as he knew exactly what I wanted to achieve. To make a long story short even though he is a very busy person he agreed to do the work, to this very present moment it has been a rewarding experience.I must comment It was not plain sailing as we anticipated as many problems where highlighted with The Black Sheila one of the biggest setbacks was the floor pan and the engine. A new floor pan had to be sourced as my original floor pan was beyond repair. The engine had rust damage due water seeped thought the carbs into the casing.

The Engine has gone through a minor rebuild as June 2015 I will be upgrading with an all new more powerful engine.
The engine is also undergoing some cosmetic surgery to replicate and original 356 engine pics to follow soon.

I must commend Armand for all his work and the attention to detail, truly awesome and a job well done.

Update 2015 - Continued 4

My idea from the start was to have an engine that closely replicates an original Porsche 356 engine, to source an original 356 engine is costly and very expensive to maintain does not justify the expenditure for a replica car.

Next best thing is modify a stock Beetle Type 1 engine so it closely represents a Porsche 356 engine.

This is the latest status on the engine, mockup is complete and it will soon be ready for paint.

Attention to details W.I.P the Pertronix III distributor had rings machined and Bosch maker plate fixed , once all is painted mat black it should give it that classic look.
Heat riser's will also be installed to give it the illusion of a 356 engine
Seal rubber very similar to the 356 setup.

The current pulley is a temporarily solution until such time we can source or CNC Machine an OT pulley, ISP west sells 'em reproduction Okrasa OT pulley's but have no stock at the present moment.

February 2015 Update

Finally had the opportunity to physically view my speedster after a year out of SA.

The past weekend I met with Armand for the first time we discussed everything from Porsche to VW truly an awesome weekend, not forgetting to mention that amazing man-cave that is now a something special.
To Armand and his lovely family THANK YOU for your kind and warm hospitality.

The main purpose of the visit was to discuss the black sheila, that engine and chassis is awesome, photos does not do it justice.
The engine is almost complete just needs a bit of plumbing, carb clean up and some polishing of some of the parts. We also temporarily fitted the pulley that I had machined also fitted the Porsche heat risers.

The floor pan is complete and I am really pleased with the new floor pan, excellent stuff.

The next step is some mods to the fiberglass body nothing major just a few changes to the kick panels, pedal wall and the spare wheel compartment.

I also had to try out my luggage rack with an automotive suitcase that is from the late 50's early 60's, the luggage straps that I sourced SMC works well with luggage rack, I am very happy with the outcome.
