Safety relay info for using electric fuel pump

To make sure the electric fuel pump only runs while the engine is running(ie. stops in an accident) do the following:
Go to a parts supplier/scrapyard and get the following relay from them:
321 906 059 C
411 915 511 b 12v vw-audi.jpg
A good source would be an FI golf or jetta with mechanical (CIS) injection.

Connect the terminals up as follows:
relay.jpg
This relay will cause the fuel pump to run for 5 seconds, to "prime" the carbs and then it will only continue running if the engine is running.
As soon as it detects through the coil trigger wire that the engine has stopped, the fuel pump will stop too.

I had a DIY setup running from the alternator warning lamp to do the same thing but the problem it causes is that it doesn't prime your carb if it has been standing.

And rememeber.... net pampoenkoppe, don't have safety relays on their electric fuel pumps

Hey Guys
I got a pm from Eben are you refering to the k-jet tronic injection as found on the mk1/2 gti's and cti's ?
Im sure this is it cos thats the only injection system that "primes" the injectors because its a mechanical system the relays are available from g/w there are two options the o.e relay @ R310-00 and a "local or pirate" relay @ R120-00 i only stock the o.e relays but can order the alternative if you like just gimme a shout  If you are not close to me the part no's are : A216- for the oe and A2970 for the alternative, remember prices at other branches might be more as i try and "look" after my ac family

I think the 2.1 kombi's had them too as I could rember the pump running a couple of seconds when you turn the key but not start it. :)

PS thanks splitfan!

The first thing I did to my Porsche was to change the head lamps to 100w and dim to 85w with relays. Although I put fuses in the system I m still a bit nervous with the battery next to the tank ---what will happen in case of a accident---and the nice fat live wires in there.
So this can also sort my problem in cutting the lights live wire in a accident------but then again the car will burn before the engine stop running.
Ok good idea but shit plan sorry I wasted your time.haha
cheers

I've just read online that CIS is just another name for K-Jetronic. So that's the correct relay for our application here :D
