I would like to know what size a stock tire is too, or what it would be with the modern equivalent..

Can I use two different sized tyres on the rear ? Currently I have 195/65/15 both sides.
Bought a 195/65/15 as spare and had it fitted to an original split rim. Last night I checked if the wheel would fit and if I had the correct length wheel bolts. The tyre is up against the spring plate and cant turn. I was thinking of getting a 165/80/15(which I cant seem to find) and fitting it to a beetle rim to use as spare wheel to clear the spring plate.
But this would mean I will have two different size wheels on the gearbox. Can I do this ?

According to the website you posted its only a 1.6% difference. It’s so small and I doubt it would cause any problems. The diff should allow for the differences in wheel speed.

My spare is 175/65/15 and all the others are 185/65/15...that’s a 2 % difference. A 185 doesn’t fit very well in the spare wheel well, that’s why I went with a 175.

I have a Smart car tyre on my VW rim as a spare for my Fastback as well as the Fleetline.

They just fit better into the spare wheel well and allows for more tools.

As it is a spare, you not going to ride 1000s Km on it, so it will not matter.

It the same as riding on your rim when you have a flat.

no problem.

But that said, I would not have that for anything other then emergency.

It'll be fine as a spare. But use it as a spare to get you somewhere to fix the original tyre.

If you are doing a long distance trek and have to replace the rear tyre with the smaller spare, you could consider putting the spare on the front and putting the front tyre on the back to replace the flat. Assuming your tyres are the same dia front and rear

Planning on doing a long distance trip - check gumtree for sale section over the weekend, that would be a good indication whether I made it
Front is 195/50/15. I bought two tyres as spare one for the front and one rear. Had them fitted on the original kombi rims.

Idea was to swop and change as needed, move both fronts to rear if needed etc. Im getting the 165/80/15 later today and also moving the other tyres over to beetle rims, seems they have a bit more clearance from the springplate. If that does not work I can just return the tyres for a refund and have the 165/80/15 as spare, after the trip.
