Buggy engine cutting out

Post by Frustrated »

Help Please. My buggy has suddenly developed an issue of randomly cutting out while driving and then will not start. Leave it for a day or two it then starts. Have replace coil, ignition, points and condenser . Any suggestions what could be the cause.

did you recently tighten the nuts by the fuel pump to stop a leak? If you did, loosen them up a touch and live with the leak

No have not touched the pump. Have notice fuel filter has quite a bit of dirt in it.Going to preplace tomorrow, It seems to only cut out going uphill.

Could be that you have dirt in your tank which restricts fuel coming out, so when the fuel in the carb and pipe is gone, the car stops.

The dirty fuel filter should give you a clue that you have dirt in your tank doing this.

Now the next is something you should do after you have drained most, NO ALL, the fuel and have it standing where fuel spillage will not matter, place a tray under tank, remove the tank outlet, it should have a filter over it and let the little bit of fuel in the tank wash the bottom of the tank clean out.

Clean the tank outlet filter, blow out the pipes and refit.

Now remove your in-line filter and remove pipe from carb, blow out any dirty fuel and muck out of the pipe before replacing the in-line filter and re-fit the pipe.

Fill tank and try again.

If not right, you could have dirt in the carb, but I do not think so.

Good Luck

ANOTHER POSSIBILITY IS THAT YOUR PIN OPERATING THE FUEL PUMP IS GETTING STUCK IN THE FUEL FLANGE WHICH EXPANDS SLIGHTLY WHEN HOT.
NOT YOU EVERY DAY OCCURANCE BUT IT IS A POSSIBILITY.

Is it a sudden shut down (electrical) or a fade (fuel starvation or flooding ) sounds like you float level check valve is not working filling up the float chamber and flooding the motor, especially going uphill, after a day or so and a little evaporation the float level is back to normal and you can start the car.

No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.
