Re: 1959 Beetle.. Before and After

Post by retrovan »

Spent Sunday fixing the pedals, now the throttle moves smooth, not like a ratchet, Also do not have to dive under dash to pull the pedal back before hitting something. Going to miss that .........
Wondered why the engine had a shudder, found both rear gearbox mounts completely de laminated, wonder that the engine did not come flying out the engine bay over speed bumps ??
Also cleaning up the 52 years of mud under the body, and giving it a new coat of rubberiser.
Greased all the cables, and gear shift shaft, reset steering lock,
This weekend I will be lifting the back of the beetle, as it now looks like a dog with a broken back, it just dragging its ass around.
Make it look more like a classy Lady.
Thinking of making it 2 tone, with white sides,
Any opinions????

I prefer the current colour scheme to two tone with white. I think white will be too much contrast. At the same time. You have to look at your bug more often than me so you should really pick something that you like. I like John Lemon's coral bug. I like the grey ones. I like the VW dove blue. I like subtle two tones. Like brown and black gray and blue.

I must agree with you the right colour for my 59 is VW dove blue and white, BUT, ........it is brown now, and looks depressing, its a nice colour, but not on this beetle, do not know why ??
Have a few images here, if any body would like to comment, also....
If anybody has PHOTOSHOP, could you please take a photo of my Beetle, and paint it with white two tone, or even other colours, lets see what it looks like.

PLEASE ....... :zhelp: Pine you all ways do magic on your :puterwork: , How about it..... :D

Oops....er sorry, wrong Forum

I have never used Photobucket before, although I'd love to learn some day - in the meanwhile I can suggest you go to http://www.gamemew.com/Racing_Games/BUG ... _5235.html and use the BugSelecta, an on-line tool which you can use to play around with colours, wheels, suspesion height etc. for your Beetle - easy to use!

Why change you ask ??....Well I don't know, the car looks too depressed to me, I always think that a Beetle should look lively, funky, energetic, don't get me wrong, like the colour (Hmm,chocolate) but not on a Beetle without, .. without a twist.
That's why I think the Ivory 2 tone will give it a Twist. 2 tone seats, get ride of the Black roof lining, and get it back to LIFE, Wonderful, Wonderful LIFE........

Well today I fitted the Steering damper (2nd Hand) back onto the beam, as someone had cut it off, (marks still there)
Had to make a new box mount, as this was gone, and re-weld it on to the beam without burning the car out.

Here is a photo of it just welded in,

Image

and here with it painted,

Image

Also cleaned out the accelerator cable tube, re-greaser it and fitted in a new cable, with the pedal assembly now fixed, all works well, as if Germans designed it. (Oops they did  )

so long.............

Dont go two tone....

There are afew ways to spruce up that beetle without having to make it two tone.

.* White wall inserts
.* Drop the car abit lowwer
.* Two tone the wheels
