Hello

I have finished the BeachBummer and now its time to start with the next one.
This one is a Beamish body with a Subaru 2L turbo motor.
I have the motor, a transmission good for 300 BHP with center mount, all the urethane bushes and mountings for the whole car and most of the stuff needed for this project. I have been collecting these bits and pieces over the last two years. (bit easier on the pocket)

My Question.
1) I want to get away from the beetle backbone. I want to drop the floor +- 3"s. I am lookling to built a type of a pipe car and drop the body over it. I am looking for ideas and input.

2) Anybody know where I can source a adpter/ flywheel locally. Can get a complete kit from KEP. (Flywheel, adapter, clutch plate and hi torque starter) Lots of places have told me they can make one up but I dont wanna be the practice run. Volkspare (Martin) told me they were going to do it but that seems only a promice.

I have seen a mid-mount 2.5L Oetinger motor in a kit car mid mount on a Formula vee chassis with a space frame which was real low, maybe that is an option, One word of advice I can give you is cut out the middle man and buy direct from KEP it will work out cheaper than having to pay a middle man to do it, I have imported many parts and saved plenty cash.

The Subie turns the same way as a VW motor.

I am looking for pics / plans /ideas for the chassis. Have searched the net and not found anything of value. I want to get lots of ideas so that when I build this chassis it doesnt need to be modified again.(wish)

There are simple things that I have picked up like a bar running behind your shoulders for 4-point safty belts.

Hi you can get the fly wheel and adapter from Paul Coetczr at a resnonable price and some advice may be. he races a normally asperated scoobie motor in his offroad car ..Why do you want to get away from the volla backbone if you got a strong gearbox. For handling and so forth there is nothing wrong with beetle suspension if just set up right you can do 200km/h. I was the first to do 11.1sec1/4mile in SA in 1999 and with a speed of 198km.there was a lot that I have done with the suspension but all to the best.

If you make a space frame then it should be easy enough to channel the body the required 3". Space frames are readily done over the pond so maybe check out Ron Lummus website (USA) or Jon Rathbone (UK). If you're looking to change rear set up at same time, I've got an article from guy in Glasgow fitting wishbones to rear (before he started on front). Can send copy if you want.

In january 1997 issue of Street macine (UK) there was an article on a KG with a space frame chassis (some pixs included) and a Cosworth drive train. Maybe this would be worth checking out, as he'd also channelled the body over the chassis. Think I have a pdf copy somewhere.
