I must say I fit seatbelts to all my cars. It's not difficult to weld in the necessary B-pillar reinforcement to fit decent 3-point inertia reel belts.

I knew a guy who rear ended another car in his oval window beetle at a slow speed; no seatbelts. He crushed his larynx against the steering wheel and died of suffocation at the scene.

The only reason that I walked out with absolutely no injuries from a 120KM/H rollover was because I had my seatbelt on....

Yeah blitz and barry are right. I also walked away from a 140km crash cos of the belt. I coulda been smashed by the airbag also. So yeah seatbelts save.
Barry, Iv got an Uncle thats restoring a chev nova2. Same deal, no place to install 3point belts. Was also thinking about lap belts.

I have shoulder straps in the DarkSide and anyone that drives with me puts it on and if they dont I put it on for them. If they take it off then they get out and walk.
The lap strap IMHO is a waist (no pun intended) its only gonna stop you from submarineing and wont stop the inertia of the torso... If there is no place for the reinforcing for the std belt then look at getting a 3/4/5 point harness and rig it up to go over the shoulders, down the back of the seats and anchored under the seats somewhere....

Should i put seatbelts in the buggy im building up?

even if i get a road worthy with out it...

If i dont have them in when they pull me over, will I get a ticket? and will the place where i got the road worthy be in any way fined or so?

I don't think they will roadworthy without belts. But then again, why would you not want seat belts?

I only have belts that come over the lap, so dont think they will help for the head slam on the stearing...

and i will have to do a modification for the 4 point belts

I agree with all the above especially with the my girls! Belts are a must for me and I fitted into Mo before I would let the girls get in.

So I need help. I want to get a set of front and rear belts (3 point ones) for the beetle as time is moving on and now is the time to fit! Does anyone know where I can get some new ones with the special mounding anchor bolts?

I have found some on CIP1 but they need shipping and are $80+ each. Will do that if no one know of local suppliers....prefer Cape Town if possible.... :zhelp:

When I bought my panelvan and did the test to get it on my name ,the inspector asked if the seatbelts were original(mine has seatbelts someone put in) because "is it not to old to have a seatbelt",... my steering also has a lot of play and I mean a lot, its a battle driving that thing, The inspector took it for a ride to see if the everything was ok on the driving side of things, he was away for quite a bit and I thought it must have stalled or something must have happened, after a few minutes he came back with a big grin and said the steering is loose ,but thats what you would expect from a 1967 vehicle and last words was he absolutely loves it,PASSED

Have to admit the guy at the Brackenfell Traffic Department that test the vehicles is always friendly and a bit of a joker, real nice guy
My lights were also way off from the test board indicators, he adjusted my headlights on the spot, and continued testing

Found new seat belts at Midas, that was many years ago. Not sure if they still have.

Went to Bellville traffic dept today for licence renewal. There were only 3 people in the que for renewals, and 2 in the que for vehicle licences (change of ownership). Four counters were open.
Took less than 5 minutes.
Each little municipality (from the old days) in greater Cape Town has it's own traffic office. And they are open on Saturdays as well. Free parking in front. Can choose to wich one i want to go. Goodwood, Bellville, Durbanville, etc.

Still remember the mess in JHB at Langlaagte and Loveday street office. The long que that went from the first floor down the steps, through the foyer out on the pavement. Often took most of the day. Is it still like that there?
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).
