Hi folks
My buggy was licensed in my name up until the end of march, so i have until the 20th-ish of this month to relicense without paying fines or anything.
When I tried to pay the license though, the guy wouldnt let me because he says its not roadworthied and needs police clearance.
Now, I had it roadworthied less than 6 months ago - so that should still be valid, but it still needed a police clearance (which I couldnt get, because there is no chassis number on the buggy - although I knwo the engine itself is fine).
Besides all the issues with getting it roadworthied/cleared, shouldnt I stilll be able to just pay my license to keep it up to date (I know I wont get a disk, I just dont want it to incur fines)? I mean, what do you guys with a un-roadworthied project car do if its sitting around for two years? surely you can keep it licensed?
Any insight would be helpful!
Thanks
J

Re: Licensing without Roadworthy
You are right. You can pay your licence. But what may have happened is they flag your car if they find something wrong. There are other threads here dealing with the "no chassis number" issue. i can't remember the details, but again, the traffic people don't have their fact straight. Hope this helps.

Re: Licensing without Roadworthy
Thanks again Ron. You seem to be my guru in these licensing issues
I guess I will just have to go back there and try again. I seriously doubt that they have flagged the car for anything other than the engine clearance... but I may be wrong

Re: Licensing without Roadworthy
I had a Jeep that I registered without roadworthy.
I took three years before I was able to have it roadwortied and every year I got my renewal notice and I paid the license fee. When the car was ready, I had it roadworthied and then I submitted the roadworthy certificate and was issued with the license disc.
This was done in 2002, so the basics should still apply.

That is exactly what I did with the Ghia, for 4 years, and am doing with the Notch, 1 year and counting...

Re: Licensing without Roadworthy
Hey again, thanks for all the suggestions, sorry its been so long without an update.
Anyways, i procrastinated for a week or two due to work and so on, and just before I was about to get around to trying again, the problem was solved for me.
My buggy has had no (working) starter motor for a while... not really a problem, since Its easy to push start by yourself if there are no hills to park on
... but never-the-less, it ended up sitting outside my work for a week for various reasons (like me being a wuss and getting lifts instead of push-starting in the rain), and to cut a long story short, it got swiped over one of the nights. So... no more licensing issues to deal with
Anyways, its a bit of a bummer, even though it wasnt worth much at all.
Thanks again for all of you input, its been appreciated.

I had been thinking of getting rid of it, cos I was about to get a new (read: really old, but new to me) slightly more practical car (like one with a roof and a starter motor

Actually, I had always been hoping deep down inside that it would burn up in one of those much talked about ACVW viking funerals
