Politics and democracy mean something different to everyone, that's why not only one party gets all the votes etc. Everyone has their own opinion, there is no "right" or "wrong". I'm sure everyone could write a hundred reasons why they voted or didn't. So why don't we just agree to disagree? Just throwing it out there...

Went to vote last night and when we were 2nd from the front......they told us the Provincial balods are finished. One guy threw his toys out the building...I thought they will arrest him for swearing almost everyone under the sun.

The head person from the IEC then told us that there is nothing she can do ( more likely she wont do) and if we don't like it we must leave.

I then joined the first guy..... I told here to stick that balod box where the sun don't shine......

Eventually a lady from the DA brought some more balods, and everything went on.

Pity they can't run the Country for us!!

I voted. It was the first time that I did. A long story, I will share it with you over a bottle of Merlot and a camp fire...one day.

I volunteered to observe the voting, and the count at the end. It was an eye opener, and I loved it. :hangloose:

Yesterday was the first time that I voted. Previously I only voted on polls for Picture of the Month :P

I went to the Voting Station at around 8am, it was practically empty.

Walked out 5 minutes later

DA got my votela.

Made a rather large lady angry there when I drew an innocent conclusion that the ANC is a bunch of crooks :hangloose:

I didn't vote either - voting means you support the immoral, dishonest, cheats that we call politicians in this country and I refuse to do that. In a way that is also voting. I will not take part in their games to obtain power and money at any cost

In SA that is all distorted. It is a foregone conclusion that one party will win,and one person will be president. My vote should be a say into the running of my country, and it is not.I might only hope that is enough to

If I'm not allowed to have a say into the running of affairs, and don't have the right to complain, then why do I need to have an ID book.Revoke my status as a South African, and kick me out the country.I'm useless to everyone.I don't contribute,I don't report crime,I don't help my fellow country men,I don't assist when help is needed by giving blankets and food for the needy,or help orphans.

My contribution to this country goes much further than one stupid vote that has no bearing on the outcome whatsoever. In most cases it is the only time that any South Africans contribute to this country anyway.Like going to church on Sunday, and doing what you like in the week.It is just to shut your concience. The rest of the time, you are not doing anything.
Your vote does count towards the running of the country. Any vote made that is not ANC makes their chances of getting a 2/3 majority harder. If they have the majority, then they make the rules and that affects you. Without the majority they have to have others supporting them to change the laws. You are not voting for a president, you are voting to reduce his powers.

And no, I didnt vote, because I couldnt and wasnt afforded the oppertunity

I reckon it is democratic yes, but not nessesarily the ideal situation for accountability and for minorities in the country.

I wonder if you took the voter's turn out for black and compared it to the voter's turn out for whites, I'll bet the black voter's turnout is at least, at least, twice that of the whites. And THAT my friends, is why we end up with a 2/3 majority. Just that. No other reason.

But I know why, it's because the blacks didn't have the vote and had to fight for it, we whiteys have always had it, so it has never been valued as it should, and now that it's power is diminished, we are too apathetical to get out of bed and make an effort, any effort.

Voting does not mean you support a particular group of corrupt politicians (I have yet to hear about one who isn't, including Obama with his 1000000 dollar subsidy to the hospital his wife was working for as fund raiser), it means you support the democratic process.
