The quality of the finish is in the quality, preparation and attention to detail of the under-cote...

Re: 1963 - "Blue Bird" Beetle - WARNING LOTS OF PICS!
Went to see Jurgen this morning but BB not back yet and I have a really bad "Hangover"
Ron thanks for the engine but it's a 1300 not a 1200. Jurgen says there's some bits that he will salvage and hold on to for people who need bits. He did ask where the HELL had then engine been and was it used for a cement mixer
Armand, I'll give you a call when this hangover goes a little to see if you have a 1200 sleeve and Merlin, did you manage to see if you had some tinware for a '63 1200 SP?
If not, I'm going to look on ebay and try and bring back in my suitcase from the UK end Aug.
On some good news, Jurgen found a round fan housing which I think he's going to donate to the BB cause.
Sorry no pics this week......hopefully more next Saturday!

Re: 1963 - "Blue Bird" Beetle - WARNING LOTS OF PICS!
No idea where it came from. It was given to Nic (Dawie se neef) who had it sitting around for ages and then gave it to me, or rather asked me to please relieve him of it as it was taking up space in his garage. (Space which he no doubt managed to fill with other junk immediately) I took it and put it under my milkwood tree with the intention of stripping it and giving away the bits, so it is where it is supposed to be - being stripped and the bits being used to keep other Vollas alive. I'm sorry that it wasn't the exact engine you were looking for. I hope you find what you need.Dutch_Diver wrote:It's a 1300 not a 1200. I think Jurgen might be right about the cement mixer, given the hand crank starting thingy welded to the crank pulley bolt...

Frank, you haven't had a close look at the paint on a new Ferrari have you? About the same as any other production car.Dutch_Diver wrote: I'm sure it will be fine and my expection is good not New Ferrari GREAT.
You'd think on a car of that ilk they'd be colour sanded......
I like what I'm seeing on the progress - good job!!

Cheers Barry means a lot coming from someone with your skills & talent!
BB is being done to a much higher standard than MO. Problem is with that, sourcing original parts is a nightmare and very expensive. I now know why Fig was thinking about stripping one 57 bus for another and a 63 Beetle is nowhere near as rare!
Set of NOS cylinders and pistons are £460 excluding shipping! I only need one cylinder as 3 fins are cracked!
That's R2,000 per broken fin!!!!!
I talked to Armand yesterday and I think that I'm going to take his advice and just refit the one I have at the back so you can't really see it. 3 broken fins can't be that critical (I hope)

Advantages of being a MAN, you can eat a banana in a hardware store - Dutch's current avatar reminded me of this oldie.
But forget the AVATAR, Dutch, we want pics of BB, if it looks anything as good as I imagine, it's going to be WOW!
