My One owner '58 Bus - project update!

Post by Lochnesh Monster »

Hi Guys!

I just collected my 1958 splitty, Very Excited!!!!

I was referred to a gentleman who lives on a plot, north of Pretoria who had owned the bus since new.
Once I had convinced him that I was not an exporter, and had showed him pics of some of the other cars in my collection, He felt assured that his baby was oing to a good home. We agreed on a fair price, and the bus was soon on the trailer.

The bus is 100% original as it was on the day it was delivered from the factory! It starts and still runs beautifully, and the owner was actually upset that I wanted to trailer it back to JHB. "Just drive it!" He said!
Has a full service history, and has been licensed up to date every year!

Question to all of you....... Do I restore it.... or just service it and leave it as is?

WOW :o
Leave it as is.
Service the mechanicals, brakes & engine, keep it original, it looks great the way it is.
Great find.

Congratulations on your find. It will give you alot of joy.

There is such a lot of patina there, it is a difficult choice to restore or not. Personally I would have probably painted to conserve the body and prevent any rust, if there is none and repair if there is any. That way the car will be preserved much longer. But you have to do it right the first time.

Congrats! That was a very nice find. Keep it original if possible and just fix the mechanicals so that you can drive it without problems.

If you molest it, FIG will find you (and to be honest, I will help him find you) and kick the @#@# out of you.
Keep as is, just clean up and maintenance. You don't know how lucky you are to find a bus like that!

Congratulations......as long as you use it rather than put her into a museam then I don't care.....lovely bus. I would leave until I had to do something!
