Beetle Buddies

Post by dsan »

I've been searching through the forum for a better understanding as to why Beetle Buddies went bust. When we moved back to SA, did we look at some of his cars and the quality wasn't bad (from the initial glance)

Was it due to market demand or something else? Surely with the citi golf being finally killed, there is a market for those wanting a decent, reliable car for under 50k.

:puterwork: apparently his work was pathetic at best, from reading stuff on the forum, to hellopeter, bb was a scam artist, that made the outside of his rebuilds and restos look awesome, while the quality of the work sucked, going on a few months, the cars would pop out of their make up and the true krappyness would show. I take it, word got around, and he was shamed into closing.
The citi golf, will take another 100 years to die. Such is its tenaCITI lol.

How much is a city golf in SA? Canada, about $14,500 CDN dollars. With our dollar about 98 cents U.S. $15K u.s. would get one here.... still available right now.

Some are just under $10 000 and some models just a tad over $10 000.

Didn't know you could still get them in Canada.Thought SA was the only country that still has them.

No, the City Golf in Canada is not the Mk1 shape. It is a Mk4 that has a bit of a facelift and is sold as a City Golf there. Notice the difference in spelling too.. CITI vs CITY... We are the only country in the world producing the Mk1 shape Golf...
If it's too low, you're too old

I have three customers that bought BB cars over a period of five years.

On all of them the paint was flawed. They all were sold with mismatched recapped tyres and all three were left stranded within the first month due to problems like blocked fuel lines and electrical problems.

They also managed to literally blow up a Sanji DX 200 immobiliser that I had fitted for a guy in his BB Beetle.

On the red beetle that I did the disc brake conversion on, I had to spend a whole day sorting out the wheel alignment on a car that was released from BB one week earlier.

The bottom line is that if you as a customer spend about R50K on a first car for your kid, you have the right to expect that the car will be safe and reliable. If not - word of mouth will kill your business
