I want to get a video camera to get them jumping traffic lights, putting their sirens on for no reason, overtaking in the emergency lane with no siren, speeding.... They dont have to know until they see it online.

Correct Hloni. But as long as it is SABS approved, you can use it track or road. Kinda ricer having a 4point in a daily driver that doesnt require it though.

Direct import with CE No not apply? l mean, SABS has high requirements, but then if 1 buys direct from Europe or Amerikas, doubt it will come with SABS stamp.

[quote[We had a camera and when we wanted to take photos he said that we would be arrested if we do so and charged for (forgot what he called it)[/quote]

As a documentary photographer working in SA, there is no law to prevent joe Q public from taking images of any working police officer. The usual rules of safety apply, so no doing it whilst driving 140 down the wrong side of the road. Any police officer who threatens you with arrest for doing so is in breach of their own rules. Make sure you put the camera down and note their badge number, name and or reg number.

Whilst the police here do feel they are above the law, and it's not hard to understand why when most of the ruling party operates that way, they are bound by a whole host of laws.

I've complained many a time about police abuse of powers. Normally when they see my UK press pass, they back off and I continue to take images.

Problem is, many here just don't realise their rights.

That would do Hloni. But like its been said. Certain popo with power complexes, such as the Project 1/4 mile cops in durbs will wana tell you 'it didnt come with it from the factory, so its not safe' although we know ferrari used it in their f1 cars. Yup some cop mentality suck

Exactly. Sometimes it seems as having extra safety is wrong. But the full roll cage although a schweet safety addition, will make it a track or race car, and the popo would argue that BMW did NOT make the car to that spec. Iv gotten flack for a sabs approved suspension drop and 17" wheels on an old car of mine.

Again are the cops in charge structural or automotive engineers fully qualified and licensed to make the official call that the addition is safe?

if the car is required to pass COR, and it does, it is road legal. Your average cop doesn't have the legal right or qualifications to determine what isn't safe and what is, that's the job of the roadworthy tester (obviously beyond the basics often found on a car)

Friend down here had the same problem with his GT3 with mods. He's ended up suing Metro for a lovely sum as the cop slapped him with a fine for an unsafe car with non-factory mods. He won in the end and the two cops are under investigation.

again, knowing your rights really helps, as does a damn good lawyer on speed dial
